White wine is a wine that is fermented without skin contact. The colour can be yellow, yellow-green or yellow-gold. It is produced by the alcoholic fermentation of the non-coloured pulp of grapes, which may have a skin of any colour. White wine has existed for at least 4.000 years.

A Rosé is a type of wine that incorporates some of the grape skins, but not enough to qualify as a red wine. It may be the oldest known type of wine, as it is the most straigthforward to make with the skin contact method. The pink colour can range from a pale “onionskin” orange to a vivid near-purple, depending on the grape varieties used and winemaking techniques. Usually, the wine is labelled Rosé in French, Portuguese and English-speaking countries, Rosado in Spanish or Rosato in Italian.

Vinho Verde refers to Portuguese wine that originated in the historic Minho province in the far north of the country. The modern-day ‘Vinho Verde’ region, originally designated in 1908.
Vinho Verde is not a grape variety, it is a DOC for the production of wine. The name means “green wine,” but translates as “young wine”, with wine being released three to six months after the grapes are harvested. They may be red, white, or rosé, and they are usually consumed soon after bottling. A Vinho Verde can also be a sparkling, a Late Harvest or even Brandy.

Sparkling wine is a wine with significant levels of carbon dioxide in it, making it fizzy. While the phrase commonly refers to champagne, European Union countries legally reserve that term for products exclusively produced in the Champagne region of France. Sparkling wine is usually either white or rosé but there are examples of red sparkling wines. The sweetness of sparkling wine can range from very dry brut styles to sweeter doux varieties (French for “hard” or “soft” respectively).

Red wine is a type of wine made from dark-colored grape varieties. The colour of the wine can range from intense violet, typical of young wines, through to brick red of mature wines and brown for older red wines. The juice from most purple grapes is greenish-white, the red colour coming from anthocyan pigments present in the skin og the the grape. Much of the red wineproduction process involves extraction of color and flavor components from the grape skin.

Champagne is a sparling wine originated and produced in the Champagne wine region of France under the rules of the appellation, that demand specific vineyard pratices, sourcing the grapes exclusively from designated places within it, specific grape-pressing methods and secondary fermentation of the wine in the bottle to cause carbonation.
The grapes Pinot noir / Pinot Meunier & Chardonnay are used to produce almost all Champagne but small amounts of Pinot blanc / Pinot grirs / Arbane & Petit Meslier are vinified as well.
Champagne became associated with royalty in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries as the leading manufacturers made efforts to associate their Champagnes with nobility and royalty through advertising and packaging.
